How to Update a Podcast on iTunes

Sync your podcast to your iPod, iPhone or iPad.

Creators of podcasts can post new episodes as often as they want to. And just because a podcast normally post at a certain time doesn't mean that will always happen. You can download updated episodes of podcasts you subscribe to using iTunes when your device is not connected to the computer so the new episodes will be ready to load to your device as soon as you connect it.

Instructions

Update Single Podcast

1. Open iTunes.

2. Click "Podcasts" beneath Library on the left side of the iTunes program window. A list of podcasts you subscribe to appears on the right side of the program window.

3. Right-click the podcast you want to update. A context menu appears to the right of the mouse pointer.

4. Click "Update Podcast." An orange circle with two arrows moving in a clockwise direction appears to the left of the podcast you chose to update if an updated episode of the podcast is available for download. Also, if an update is available, "Downloads" will appear beneath Store on the left side of the iTunes program window.

5. Click "Downloads." The name of the episode of the podcast you are downloading appears beneath Name and the status of the download appears beneath Status. The progress bar will disappear and the word "Done" appears beneath Progress when the updated episode of the podcast is finished downloading.

Update Multiple Podcasts

1. Open iTunes.

2. Click "Podcasts" beneath Library on the left side of the iTunes program window. A list of podcasts you subscribe to appears on the right side of the program window.

3. Click "Refresh All" in the lower-right corner of the iTunes program window. An orange circle with two arrows moving in a clockwise direction appears to the left of any podcasts where updates are available. If an exclamation point appears to the left of the podcast name, click it. A dialog box appears notifying you that you have not listened to the podcast in a while. Click "Yes" to download any updated episodes for this podcast or "Cancel" to verify that you do not want to update this podcast at this time.

4. Click "Downloads." The name of the episode of the podcast you are downloading appears beneath Name and the status of the download appears beneath Status. The progress bar will disappear and the word "Done" appears beneath Progress when the updated episode of the podcast is finished downloading.
