How to Receive Twitter Messages on Your Phone
With Twitter, you can follow the messages posted by your friends or favorite celebrities. Every Twitter user has a unique user name, and you can sign up to follow the ones you choose. You can read Twitter updates, called "tweets," by accessing your Twitter account online. You can get tweet updates on your mobile phone through text messages. To receive tweets on your phone, activate Twitter's mobile service through your Twitter account while on a computer, or directly from your phone.

Type the word "start" using your phone's SMS and send it to your country's "Twitter code." The code for the U.S. is 40404.

Reply with your Twitter username when you receive a reply from Twitter.

Text your account's case-sensitive password when prompted.

Text "OK" when prompted to activate Twitter on your phone. This enables you to post tweets whenever you text something to the Twitter code.

Text "ON" to the Twitter code to turn mobile Twitter updates on. Now you will receive all Twitter updates on your phone.

Text commands to the Twitter code to adjust your text notification settings for particular Twitter users. "ON username" turns on SMS notifications from a specific user while "OFF username" turns them off.

Log-in to your Twitter account.

Click the "Settings" link in the drop-down menu on the right side of the window.

Select the "Mobile" tab on the Settings page.

Select your country and enter your phone number, including area code. Exclude "1," "0" or country code.

Click "Start."

Text "GO" from your phone in reply to a confirmation message from Twitter. You are now able to send tweets from your phone by texting to your country's Twitter code.

Adjust your mobile update preferences in the "Mobile" section of the Settings tab. Do this in the "Device updates" drop-down menu. Clicking "On" enables Twitter to send the tweets you follow directly to your phone through SMS.

Tips & Warnings
You can also follow individual Twitter users without your own Twitter account. Text "Follow username" to your country's Twitter code with the username of the person from whom you would like to receive Tweets.
If you have a smartphone, you can also receive Twitter updates by installing a Twitter application and turning mobile notifications on.
