Prep
-
1
Take a shower and exfoliate all the areas of skin you are looking to tan. Pay particular attention to the rough spots like elbows and knees.
-
2
Towel dry and apply moisturizer to your entire body to allow a more even application of the tanning lotion. Make sure your moisturizer is oil free; otherwise, it will stop your skin from absorbing the tanning lotion.
-
-
3
Securely wrap your hair in the towel to keep it out of the way and stand in the empty bathtub. This will prevent you from potentially staining your floors with the tanning product.
-
4
Put on the gloves before you begin or your hands will be darker than the rest of your body.
Application
-
5
Tackle one part of your body at a time and treat each part like it has four sections -- front, back, right side and left side.
-
6
When applying the tanner move in small circles, making sure to blend it into the skin so it is even and not streaky or blotchy.
-
7
When doing your face, use a very small amount and make sure to blend it around your jawline and onto your neck.
-
8
Take off one glove and apply tanner to the other hand in the same way you have for the rest of your body. Use only a small amount between the fingers as this area has a tendency to darken quickly and look unnatural.
-
9
Repeat Step 4 on the other hand once the first is dry. Make sure to put the glove back on or your hand will have twice the amount of self tanner as the other hand.
Post-Tan
-
10
Wait 10 to 15 minutes until your entire body is dry. Try not to move in this time or the tan might become streaky.
-
11
Put on loose-fitting clothes that you don't mind getting dirty in case some of the self tanner rubs off.
-
12
Reapply the self tanner if needed, making sure to wait a few days between applications.
