How to Fax a Document Using an HP Officejet J4540

      Lift the scanner lid and load a letter or A4-size original document print-side down on the right-front corner of the glass. Close the lid. Or, put the document into the automatic document feeder print side up.

      Press either the left or right arrow to choose "Fax B&W" or "Fax Color." Press "OK."

      Type the fax number with the keypad.

      Press "Start" to start the fax.
