How to Ship Fondant Cakes
Fondant icing gives cakes and petit fours a more professional, polished appearance, but fondant will crack and crumble if handled improperly. This makes shipping a fondant cake a challenge. Packaging a fondant cake properly will ensure that the confection reaches its final destination in one piece. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions
-
-
1
Bake the cake in an aluminum pan. Once the cake is cooled, remove it from the pan and decorate it with fondant.
-
2
Clean the aluminum baking pan with soap and water and carefully lower the fondant-iced cake back into the pan. The pan will provide a steady base for shipping.
-
-
3
Wrap the cake in plastic cling wrap. Place toothpicks in the top of the cake to protect any decorative elements from being crushed by the plastic wrap.
-
4
Place the cake in a bakery box. The box should be large enough to hold the cake, but not so large that the cake has room to shift. Shifting could damage the delicate fondant covering. Secure the edges of the box with tape to keep it closed during shipping.
-
5
Wrap the outside of the bakery box with bubble wrap. Secure the wrap to the box with tape. This will add an additional layer of protection against damage during shipping.
-
6
Set the bakery box into a slightly larger corrugated cardboard box. Fill all the gaps between the bakery box and the corrugated box with balled-up newspaper or packing peanuts.
-
7
Close the corrugated box and secure the flaps with packaging tape. Write the mailing and return addresses on top of the box, and write "Perishable" on the box in large letters to alert the shipping company that the box contains food.
-
8
Bring the box to a mailing service. Ship it using overnight or express service. This will ensure the cake gets to its destination faster, which ensures the recipient receives a fresher, better tasting cake.
