How to Unlock a DIRECTV Receiver's Parental Controls

Satellite television provider DIRECTV offers receivers with the option of setting parental controls. This means you can block certain shows, movies or channels from being viewed. Unfortunately, with these controls in place, you might be unable to view something that you wish to watch that you would not want your children to watch. Because of this, DIRECTV allows you to turn off the parental controls (either by outright shutting them off or by temporarily lifting them). In order to unlock the controls, you need to know the password you created when setting the controls up in the first place.

Instructions

1. Press the "Menu" button on the remote.

2. Use the arrow up and arrow down buttons to highlight "Parental Controls." Press the "Select" button to access the parental controls.

3. Choose the "Unlock Now" options for the TV show settings or movie settings (or both). You must enter in your password before the controls unlock.

Tips & Warnings

• You can temporarily unlock the parental controls instead of outright shutting them off. Tune to the channel, show or movie that is blocked and select "Unlock Now." Enter in your password, and the controls are temporarily lifted. If you turn off the receiver, the controls will be back in place the next time you turn it on.
