Rather than buy commercially prepared body wash, create your own at home. Not only can you save some cash, but making your own body wash allows you to customize the scent. You'll also be able to choose your body wash's color. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 1 cup shower gel base or liquid castile soap
  • Funnel
  • 8 oz. or larger bottle with lid
  • 3 drops of food coloring
  • 30 to 50 drops of essential oils

Instructions

      Measure 8 oz. of shower gel base or liquid castile soap. Pour 4 oz. into a bowl. Save the other 4 oz. for later.

      Add 3 drops of food coloring in the color of your choice and 30 to 50 drops of essential oils in the combination of your choice to the 4 oz. of soap. Mix mint and citrus for a energizing morning blend or lavender and ylang-ylang for a relaxing evening concoction.

      Mix the base, food coloring and essential oils slowly to combine. Avoid producing air bubbles. Add the remaining 4 oz. of base to the mixture. Stir slowly until the mixture is thoroughly combined.

      Insert a funnel into the neck of the 8 oz. bottle. Pour the homemade body wash into the bottle through the funnel. Close the lid tightly and label.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add 2 to 3 tbsp. of sea salt to your body wash to create an exfoliating scrub.

  • For an opalescent effect to your homemade body wash, add 2 tsp. of cosmetic grade mica at the same time you add the food coloring.

  • A pump or squeeze-style dispenser bottle can be used.

  • Avoid making too much homemade body wash on your first try in case you don't like the mixture.
