How to Print Your Lettering for Coloring With a Pencil

You can print your lettering for coloring with a pencil using the MS Paint program included with every version of Windows. For best results, create a simple outline version of the desired text that you can then color in as you desire when you print the project. MS Paint requires a few more steps for this type of project than some other commercially available programs, but you may still complete the task in just a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Open MS Paint from the "Accessories" folder located in the Windows "Start" menu.

    • 2

Click the "A" in the tools palette to select the text tool.

    • 3

Click in the work area and drag a large box to define the text area.

    • 4

Select the typeface and size from the drop-down menus that appear in the floating toolbar. In general, thicker, block style fonts sized to 48 pixels or above work better for this process. Uppercase lettering also tends to produce better results.

    • 5

Type the text you want to use.

    • 6

Click the "Select" tool from the tool palette. This is the rectangle with the dotted lines in the upper right corner.

    • 7

Drag a box around the text in the workspace.

    • 8

Press "CTRL+ the left mouse button" and drag a copy of the text to another location on the workspace.

    • 9

Click "Image" and select "Attributes." Click the radio button beside "black and white," and then click "OK." Repeat the process to change the radio button back to "color."

    • 10

Use the "Select" tool to draw a box around one of the copies of the text.

    • 11

Hold down the "SHIFT" key and drag the text 3 pixels to the left from the center of the text block.

    • 12

Click on a blank part of the workspace, and then reselect the text block. Use the "SHIFT" key and drag the text block 3 pixels up. Repeat this process to drag the text block to the right and once more to drag the text down.

    • 13

Use the "Select" tool to select the original size text block.

    • 14

Drag the original on top of the modified copy until it is centered.

    • 15

Select the paint bucket, or "Fill" tool, from the tool palette and click white for the color.

    • 16

Click on the letters of the original sized text to change them to white. This creates an outline effect.

    • 17

Click "File" and then "Print" to print a copy of the letters, which you can now color with a pencil.
