How to Convert to Cubic Feet

Mulch can be measured in cubic feet.

Cubic feet are one way to quantify volume. Other units include cubic inches, cubic yards and cubic meters. However, if you need to report the volume in cubic feet, you will have to convert from the other units to cubic feet. For example, if you measured the volume of mulch that you need to buy in cubic yards, but the store that you go to sells mulch by the cubic foot, you would need to convert to get the right amount of mulch.

Instructions

1. Divide the number of cubic inches by 1,728 to get cubic feet. For example, if you have 4,000 cubic inches, divide by 1,728 to get 2.31 cubic feet.

2. Multiply the number of cubic yards by 27 to convert to cubic feet. For example, if you have 40 cubic yards, multiply 40 by 27 to get 1,080 cubic feet.

3. Divide the number of gallons by 7.4805 to convert to cubic feet. For example, if you have 70 gallons, divide 70 by 7.4805 to get 9.36 cubic feet.

4. Divide the number of cubic meters by 0.02831685 to get cubic feet. For example, if you have 5 cubic meters, divide 5 by 0.02831685 to get 176.57 cubic feet.

5. Multiply the number of liters by 28.31685 to convert to cubic feet. For example, if you have 20 liters, multiply 20 by 28.31685 to get 566.447 cubic feet.
