How to Learn to Draw Fashion Designs

Instructions

1. Practice drawing figures in pencil in a sketch pad on a regular basis. Create a basic figure with an elongated body, and draw an original outfit as clothing. Concentrate on the clothing more than anything else. The fashion should be the focus of the drawing. Use colored pencils to add color.

2. Study fashion magazines. This is necessary to give you a good idea of what kind of clothing is in style.

3. Create a portfolio of your practice drawings. Include any drawings you did in high school if you took a fashion class there as well. This will aid you in getting into a fashion class at an art school.

4. Research art schools to locate one in which to enroll. Fashion design courses are always available at art colleges and institutes. You will have to enroll in a figure-drawing class to start.
