If you are moving to a new location, then you need to change your address with the U.S. Postal Service in order to receive mail at your new home. The process to change your address is the same whether you're moving across town or across the country. Make sure to fill the forms out properly so that you mail arrives at your new destination.       Go the USPS's website (usps.com) and click on the "Receiving Mail" option on the right hand toolbar.

      Choose "Change Your Address," which will take you to the postal service's online address change form.

      Proceed to the next page after reading the terms and conditions.

      Choose "Permanent" and then enter the date that you would like to start having your mail forwarded on.

      Select "Individual", "Family" or "Business."

      Enter your name, old address, new address and your email address. Click continue.

      Add your credit card information, including the name on the credit card, type of card, expiration date, security code, billing address and your telephone number; the postal service charges $1.00 to provide a change of address service. On the same page, verify that your information is correct.

      Confirm your order and submit. You will receive an email confirmation regarding your request.

    In Person

      Complete the USPS's change of address form, which is PS Form 3575. You may print the document from the Postal Service's website, pick one up at your local post office or ask your mail carrier to deliver one to you.

      Fill out the form.

      Drop it off at your local post office. There will be no fee if you return the form to the post office in person.

    By Telephone

      Call the USPS's customer service line at 800-275-8777 to change your address by telephone.

      Follow the prompts to record the change as permanent or temporary, and to say if the change is for a individual, family or business.

      Complete your change of address information by giving your current address and new address.

      Submit your credit card information; there is a $1 processing fee for changing your address over the telephone.
