Change the default email program that you use on your Mac.

Every Mac comes with the free Mail application for checking, composing and sending email. However, you might prefer to use a different email application. When you visit a website and click a link to send a message to the site administrator, it might automatically open a new email message with a preformatted subject and recipient. If you want to use an application other than Mail, you can easily change your default email program on the Mac.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the Mail icon in the desktop on your Mac to launch Apple's native email application.

    • 2

Click "Preferences" from the Mail menu.

    • 3

      Click the "General" button.

    • 4

Click the "Default email Reader" pull-down menu and select the email program you want to use.

    • 5

Click the red circle at the top of the preferences window to save your choice and close it.

    • 6

      Quit the Mail application.
