How to Create a Disk Image on a Time Machine Volume Using Disk Utility
If you use your Mac OS X-based computer for a lot of important tasks or work, it might be useful or essential to have a backup copy of your backup drive. Time Machine creates periodic backups of all of your data in case of hard drive failure. Time Machine is recognized as a good backup tool, but it can be useful to have a backup of that drive, in case the backup drive fails as well. If you create a disk image of the volume, you can store this on a separate hard drive or network location for extra safety.
