Find your state's two U.S. senators and your district's representative online

Federal representatives are elected from each state and congressional district to represent their constituents' views in Congress. Congress is divided into two houses, the House of Representatives and the Senate. There are 435 representatives and 100 senators who comprise the United States Congress. The number of representatives in the House for each state is based on the state's population. Every state also has two senators. Contact your representative or senator to express your opinion on legislation or other important issues.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine your ZIP+4 code by going to the United States Postal Service ZIP Code Lookup (see Resources). Your ZIP+4 code is necessary if multiple Representatives share your five-digit ZIP code.

    • 2

Find your representative by going to the U.S. House of Representatives website (see Resources). Enter your full ZIP code into the "Find your Representative" form at the top left corner of the page. Click "Go." This will give you the name of your representative and a link to his official website.

    • 3

Find your state's Senators by going to the U.S. Senate website (see Resources). Click "Senators" at the top of the page. Select your state from the drop-down labeled "Choose a State." Your state's two senators will be listed, along with their contact information and links to their own websites.
