How to Make a Shadowbox With Dried Flowers

How to Make a Shadowbox With Dried Flowers thumbnail
Dry your favorite flowers and place them in a shadowbox for safekeeping.

While whimsical and beautifully vintage, dried flowers can be a nuisance. It's hard to clean them when they get dusty, and they can drop petals, cluttering your surfaces and decreasing their visual appeal. If you want to preserve your dried flowers and make them hassle-free, slip them into a shadowbox. The casing will protect the flowers from dust and harm, while allowing you to display them on your walls. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the inside of your box with a ruler, and cut scrapbooking paper to the proper size. Choose paper that complements the colors or style of your flowers. For instance, roses would look beautiful against white music paper or vintage parchment.

    • 2

Glue the paper into the back and sides of your box with acid-free glue. Allow the glue to dry overnight.

    • 3

Gently remove any petals or leaves from your flowers that threaten to fall off. Arrange and rearrange the flowers inside the box until you find your favorite arrangement. Dot acid-free glue onto the flowers where they touch the paper and press them gently into place. Let the glue dry overnight.

Nail one half of a piano hinge to the bottom edge of your box and one side of a hasp lock to the top edge.

    • 5

Remove the backing from your picture frame and set the frame on top of your box. Nail the other side of the hasp lock and piano hinge to the back of your picture frame. This way, you can change or add to the shadowbox if you like.

    • 6

Flip the box over and hot glue the picture frame backing to the back of the box. Hang the shadowbox as you would a picture.
