How to Burn an MP3 CD With Windows Vista

Windows Vista includes some tools meant specifically for the multimedia files stored on your computer. Among these tools is the Windows Media Player application, which is installed with every version of Windows Vista. Part of the Media Player program is a disc-burning utility that can create audio and data discs if you have a CD-RW or DVD-RW drive on your computer. If you want to create an MP3 CD that will play in CD players capable of reading MP3 files, it is possible with the Media Player data CD-burning tool.

Instructions

    • 1

      Launch Windows Media Player.

    • 2

Insert a blank CD into the CD-RW or DVD-RW drive on your computer. If the Auto-Play window opens, click the red "X" in the top right corner to close it.

    • 3

Click "Burn" at the top of the Media Player window.

    • 4

Click the arrow below "Burn," then choose "Data CD or DVD."

    • 5

Drag MP3 files from the center section of the window to the column on the right side of the window. You can adjust the order of items in this column by dragging MP3 files to your desired location on the list.

    • 6

Click "Start Burn" once all of the MP3 files have been added to the list.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your MP3 CD will not play in a CD player, then that CD player does not support the MP3 file format and, therefore, will not be able to play an MP3 CD. To burn a CD in a format compatible with these types of CD players, select "Audio CD" instead of "Data CD or DVD" during the burning process.
