How to Iron & Starch Laundry
Ironing and starching laundry at home leads to a professional dry cleaning look. Like anything else, ironing and starching your clothing takes a bit of practice to get just right. It is very important to choose the correct setting on the iron so as not to burn or damage the clothing. Set the ironing board to waist level with the wide end to the side of your dominant hand.

Spray the garment lightly with water using a spray bottle.

Roll the garment up and wrap it in a towel for 10 minutes. The garment should be slightly damp before ironing.

Turn on the iron and change the setting to one that is appropriate for the garment.

Allow the iron a few minutes to heat up.

Lay the garment flat onto the ironing board. For shirts, place the back of the shirt down onto the board and let the front hang over each side.

Iron the garment by laying the hot side down on the clothing and moving it continuously. If you leave the iron in one spot too long, you'll leave burn marks or burn through the clothing. Be sure to not iron over any wrinkles, as this will press the wrinkles in. For shirts, start with the back and front, and then work down the sleeves.

Spray a quick blast of starch evenly over an area of the garment. Work the iron over the starched area working from one side evenly over to the other. For shirts, be sure to iron the cuffs and collars, as these are the most important areas that can be wrinkled.

Repeat steps five to seven for each other portion of the garment. For shirts, start with the back, then do each side of the front, then do the sleeves, and then do the collar and cuffs.
