Twitter doesn't send notifications when someone unfollows you.

Twitter users unfollow one another for a variety of reasons, ranging from arguments to wanting to stay under a specific number of friends. You may prefer to stop following users who stop following you, in order to focus more on opportunities for two-way conversations. While knowing when someone unfollows you may hurt your feelings, you can determine whether someone stops following you by signing up for an unfollowing notification service.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit a specific user's profile on the Twitter website. Look for a "Direct Message" button in the row of buttons underneath the profile picture. If you see this button, the user is following you. If there is no "Direct Message" button, the user is not following you.

Click the "Twitter" button on exportly.com. Enter your Twitter handle into the text field. Click "Continue" to export an Excel spreadsheet of your Twitter followers. Export your follower list regularly and compare your two most recent lists to see which users, if any, unfollowed you since your last export.

Log in to manageflitter.com with your Twitter account. Click "Allow" when Twitter prompts you to connect the two accounts. ManageFlitter will present a list of everyone who you are currently following who are not also following you. Upgrade to a Pro account and receive a daily email digest telling you the users unfollowed you that day.

Click "Sign in with Twitter" on twunfollow.com to log in. Click the "Allow" button. Enter your email address in the "Email Address" box. Indicate whether you want a daily summary of people who unfollow you, or if you would prefer instant notification. Click "Save." Check your email and click the verification link to confirm your email address. You will now receive unfollow notification emails.

Tips & Warnings

  • It's against Twitter policy to use any service that automatically unfollows users who unfollow you.
