How to Copy Internet Explorer Favorites From One's Profile

Modern browsers help you maintain a record of websites you like to visit. Some browsers refer to them as "Bookmarks." Internet Explorer calls them "Favorites" and stores them in your personal profile. One way to ensure the safety of your Favorites to copy them to another computer.

Instructions

      Launch Internet Explorer.

      Look for the toolbar that contains the word "File." If you do not see this at the top of the IE window, press your "Alt" key to make it appear.

      Click "File," then click "Import and Export" to open the Import/Export window.

      Click the "Export to a file" radio button to select it. Click "Next" to continue.

      Click the "Favorites" check box to put a check mark in that check box.

      Click "Next." A list of folders containing your favorites appears. You have the option to export all the folders or just one of them. .

      Click the "Favorites" folder to export all your favorites, or click one of the folders to export that folder. A text box appears.

      Enter a location where you want to save the favorites. A default location already appears in the text box. That location points to a file named "bookmark.htm" in your "Documents" folder.

      Enter your own location in the text box or click the "Browse" button to select a location from a list of folders on your hard drive. You can also leave the default location in the text box if you want Internet Explorer to save the favorites there.

      Click "Export."

Tips & Warnings

  • After saving a copy of your Internet Explorer favorites, view them by double-clicking the file you exported. Since it is an HTML file, your browser will open and display your favorites.
