How to Set a Gilmour Water Timer

The Gilmour automatically controls any sprinkler attached to its connected water hose.

The Gilmour electronic water timer controls the irrigation system that extends from your outdoor wall faucet. The timer is installed between the faucet and a standard water hose and contains an internal valve, which opens when the timer is activated. The timer features an electronic keypad, up to eight programs, a manual "On/Off" switch, a program override function, a one-week clock and a skip-days function. When scheduling the timer to water your lawn while you're away, you might have questions about how to set it.

1. Slide the topmost connector nut over the top of the faucet opening and tighten it until the timer is secure. Slide the end of a water hose on the bottommost connector and snugly fasten it to the timer. Squeeze both sides of the timer in with your hand and pull the timer away from the rest of the unit. Replace the unit after it's programmed.

2. Press a key to enable the Gilmour digital screen. Press the "OK" button when "To Set Press OK" blinks on the screen, and then press the "OK" button again when "Set Time & Day" blinks on the screen. The "Hours" field blinks. Press the "Up" or "Down" button to adjust the time to the current hour and press "OK." The "Minutes" field blinks. Repeat the steps to set the "Minutes," "AM" or "PM" and "Day of the Week." After the "Day of the Week" is set and "OK" is pressed, "Set Program 1" blinks. Press "OK."

3. Press the "Up" or "Down" button to set the hours field, when "Set Start Time 1" appears on the display, and press "OK." Repeat the process for the "Minutes" field and "AM" or "PM." "Set End Time 1" appears on the display, indicating an end time needs to be set. The "Hours" field blinks. Press the "Up" or "Down" button to schedule the hour and press the "OK" button. Repeat the process for the "Minutes" field and "AM" or "PM."

4. Press the arrow keys to select either "Days to Water" or "Set Skip Days," when "Days to Water" appears on the display, and press the "OK" button.

5. Press the "Up" or "Down" button to select "Yes" or "No" in answer to the displayed question "Water on Sun," if you chose "Days to Water." Press the "OK" button. The Gilmour moves to "Water on Mon." Use the arrow keys to select "Yes" or "No" and press "OK." Repeat the process until all seven days of the week are scheduled with a "Yes" or "No." Push the "Down" button to select "Finished PGM 1" and press "OK." The Gilmour automatically advances to the second program. Repeat the process from the beginning to set up additional programs.

6. Press "OK" when "Set Skip Days" blinks, if you chose "Set Skip Days" under the "Days to Water" field. Press the arrow buttons to select "Water Every 2nd Day" or "Water Every 3rd Day" and push "OK." "Finished PGM 1" blinks. Press "OK."
