About:Blank pop-ups are generated by the About:Blank virus. In addition to flooding your computer with pop-ups, the About:Blank virus changes your Internet homepage and redirects your Internet searches to international and pornographic websites that may contain additional malware. Finally, the About:Blank virus may slow your computer, reduce your available virtual memory and cause your computer to freeze or restart. Fortunately, you can put an end to the unsolicited pop-ups and other problems by removing the About:Blank virus.

Instructions

  1. End Processes

    • 1

      Press "Ctrl," "Shift" and "Escape" simultaneously to open the Task Manager.

      Click the "Processes" tab.

    • 3

      End each of the following processes listed under the "Image Name" heading. To end a process, right-click the process and select "End Process."

      phafxfa.exe

      svhost.exe

      smbdins.exe

      sethcd.exe

      tsmsetup.exe

      Close the Task Manager.

    Delete Registry Entries

      Click "Start," type "regedit" into the search field and press "Enter." The Registry Editor opens.

      Delete each of the following registry entries from the left pane of the Registry Editor. To delete a registry entry, right-click the entry and select "Delete."

      Close the Registry Editor.

    Delete DLL's And Files

      Click "Start," type "cmd" into the search field and press "Enter." The Command Prompt opens.

      Type the following commands into the Command Prompt. Press "Enter" after each command.

      regsvr32 /u wdm.dll

      regsvr32 /u achpjba.dll

      regsvr32 /u cbme.dll

      regsvr32 /u se.dll

      regsvr32 /u iesp1.dll

      del ld[X].tmp

      del syg.db

      del spyfalcon.URL

      del blacklist.txt

      del english.ini

      del spyfalcon 2.0.lnk

      del uninstall spyfalcon 2.0.lnk

      del spyfalcon 2.0.lnk

      del spyfalcon 2.0 website.lnk

      del spyfalcon.lnk

      del spyfalcon 2.0.lnk

      Close the Command Prompt and restart your computer.

  • Malicious programs, including the About:Blank virus, can sometimes be removed by anti-malware programs. Not all anti-malware programs are created equal and thus some may be able to remove the virus where others will not. The Windows Vista and 7 operating systems come pre-installed with Windows Defender, a free anti-malware program. To run Windows Defender, click "Start," "All Programs" and "Windows Defender." Then click the "Down Arrow" next to Scan and select "Full Scan."
