How to Text on Yahoo Messenger
Among the many features that the Yahoo! Messenger program offers is the ability to send SMS text messages to mobile phones. Once the recipient receives the message, they can reply to you and you will receive the message in Yahoo! Messenger. Unfortunately, not all carriers can receive messages from Yahoo! Messenger. Carriers that can receive messages in the U.S. are AT&T, Alltel, Nextel (including Sprint), Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile. There are also several foreign carriers that accept Yahoo SMS messages.

Open Yahoo! Messenger and sign in to your account.

Click "Actions" in the top menu and select "Send SMS Message." A pop-up window will open.

Select a friend from your list of contacts for whom you have cell phone numbers entered. If you want to send an SMS to a number not in your friends list, click the "Other Contact" tab and enter the 10-digit number. Click "OK to open the message window.

Type your message into the area at the bottom of the window and click "Send."
