How to Achieve High Leadership Skill in "Civilization IV"
"Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword" is part of a remarkably successful franchise of strategy games in which players choose a great civilization from history and steer it from primitive beginnings to its greatest aspirations. Gamers can win a game in several ways: by conquering the map, by creating a rich and flourishing culture, or by entering space before your rivals. The decisions you make along the way determine your final score, which can draw comparisons to horror stories like Ivan the Terrible or inspirations like Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus.

1
Choose a civilization at the beginning of the game that suits the map size. For a small map, a civilization that wages war well early like the Mongols or Aztecs will have an instant advantage. On larger maps, choose something like good expansion and financial management, of which the Romans, Russians, and French make the best use.

2
Use diplomacy to keep your friends and enemies at war with one another. The key is to pick the right moments, such as when a civilization is infringing upon foreign territory, and to offer aid. When your enemies are investing in war, you are free to research world wonders and technology, which massively impact your score at the end of the game. Taking control of a couple of enemy cities will cause the artificial intelligence (AI) to have "tunnel vision" and become overly preoccupied on taking them back.

3
Found new cities slowly and focus on building up what you have. New cities require financial support and make your borders vulnerable to enemy excursions. Self-sufficient cities make regular contributions to your society. This allows you to manage resources carefully, keeping every city useful and well-fed, which boosts population and increases your final score.
-
4
Invest in religion early, since it allows you to spy on enemies, increases production, makes your citizens happier and makes cities profitable faster. Buddhism is a quickly-acquired religion that can give you a boost over your rivals early on.
-
5
Trade researched technologies to suffering societies for a quick financial boost. Focus on filling holes that the enemy should have filled long ago, such as imparting knowledge of the wheel during the Renaissance period, which become more essential with time while requiring less work to get. This makes opponents manage their resources unwisely. However, don't trade military secrets, as you will most likely be conquering each civilization in turn, and this will slow you. Instead, trade secrets that will build up enemy cities that you will conquer and benefit from.
-
6
Build world wonders early on, since they are relatively easy to get and provide bonuses for the rest of your civilization's history. Later in the game, you will be focusing on military might to keep up with opponents, and won't have time for wonders.
-
7
Invest in technologies that help you move across the map quickly, such as roads, seafaring and flight. If you reach these technologies first, artificial intelligence will never quite catch up.
