How to Mount a Gun Sling on a Rifle
A rifle sling serves a dual purpose. When installed and used properly, the sling keeps the rifle secure on your back during the stalk and helps in steadying of the firearm during your shot. Almost all rifles have sling swivels or mounts on the underside, made specifically to attach the sling. Mounting a sling takes a scant few moments. When handling the rifle during sling attachment, make sure to handle it as if it were loaded.

1
Open the rifle chamber and check to see it is unloaded. Push the safety to "On" and point the rifle in a safe direction.
-
2
Turn the rifle upside down and hold the sling over the length of the rifle's underside. Push the slit in the sling into the rifle swivel or nob. Pull back on the sling to secure it onto the rifle's sling nut or swivel.

3
Bring the opposite end of the strap to the sling nut or swivel on the bottom of the rifle barrel and push the slit onto the nut. Pull back to secure it in position.
-
4
Place the sling onto your shoulder so the rifle barrel faces up and away from your head. Loosen or tighten the strap to your body and torso shape. A safe sling position has the barrel of the rifle pointing at an angle close to 45 degrees and away from your neck and head.
