Top your cake with seashells or have your cake decorator make seashells from fondant.

Decorating with seashells adds an ideal natural touch to an outside wedding or a nautical-inspired wedding. A major benefit of incorporating seashells into your decor is that they are free. Search local beaches long before your big day and secure a variety of shapes and sizes. If you're not close to a beach, source local vintage stores and flea markets. You'd be amazed at what treasures you will find.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean your seashells in a bucket of water. Dry them off by laying flat on a towel. Clean surplus water off with a rag.

    • 2

Place a few tea light candles in the middle of a mirrored plate. Tea light candles are the small candles often used in candle holders. They are approximately 1/4 inch high. Trim the plate with small seashells. Use these plates as the candle holders for your wedding reception tables. Candlelight provides a natural, warm glow and plenty of romantic ambiance.

    • 3

Fill glass jars with seashells; trim the vase with a white ribbon. Make enough of these arrangements for each table. Give away these beautiful centerpieces during your wedding reception; a few lucky guests will walk away with a memento of your big day.

    • 4

Place several large and extra large seashells on your gift and guest book tables. Set up several pillar candles in pillar candle holders. The candlelight amid the large seashells keeps your seashell concept consistent on your gift and guest book tables.

    • 5

String medium-sized seashells on a piece of strong twine. Arrange this twine as a banner around your head table. The head table is where the bridal party, along with the parents, sit during the reception. If you're having a buffet, string another strand of seashells along the buffet table.

Tips & Warnings

  • Search for seashells in a variety of colors and shapes. Choose the best for your wedding and recycle the others.
