How to Reformat an External Hard Drive From NTFS to FAT32 on an Apple Mac

Apple's Mac OS X operating system can read from a wide variety of file systems. Mac OS X includes the ability to read from Microsoft NTFS formatted volumes, but it's unable to write to NTFS without third party software installed. Mac OS X has full compatibility with the FAT32 format and can reformat external drives from NTFS to FAT32. Once formatted as FAT32, Mac OS X has full read and write support of the external hard drive.
