How to Change Internet Explorer Browser Settings

Internet browsers can be complex applications with a plethora of data, settings and configuration settings. Internet Explorer is no exception, and because there are hundreds of different settings, the default settings don't cater to everyone. You can change the way Internet Explorer performs by enabling, disabling or tweaking the browser settings. You can revert back to the default settings at any time.

Instructions

    • 1

Open "Internet Explorer" and click "Tools," then "Internet Options," or click "Network and Internet" in the "Control Panel."

    • 2

Click one of the following settings tabs on the options screen -- "General," "Security," "Privacy," "Content," "Connections," "Programs" and "Advanced." For the most part, the settings correlate to each tab. For example, in "Privacy," you can change the settings for the pop-up blocker while "Security" lets you change the security settings. "Advanced" is for advanced Internet Explorer users and contains a variety of settings, from general "Browser" settings to "Multimedia" settings.

Click "Apply" and "OK" once you change the desired settings. If you make a change you didn't want to make, you can reset Internet Explorer to its default settings by selecting "Advanced" and clicking "Reset."
