How to: a Tutu for Ballet
A tutu is a skirt worn in costume for ballet dancers and students. The tutu allows the ballet dancers to perform a series of dance moves without constricting their leg movements. Ballet tutus are essential by accentuating the ballerina's dance moves. The visual effect of a tutu also blends into a dancer's performance. The materials used to make tutus are muslin, tulle, nylon and voile. Tulle is the most common material used for a ballet tutu.
Instructions

1
Buy six yards of tulle. Pick any tulle colour of your choice. This type of fabric gives the tutu a more puffy appearance.
-
2
Cut the tulle in 3-inch strips. Six yards of tulle will give you 72 3-inch strips. Cutting the strips less than 3 inches results in a less puffy tutu, while cutting the strips larger than 3 inches results in a puffier tutu. Adjust the width of the strips to how full you want the tutu skirt.

3
Measure your waist by using a measuring tape. Stand up straight and wrap the measuring tape around your waist starting at "0". Your waist measurement is the number that meets the number "0".
-
4
Cut a 2-inch fabric elastic band the same length as your waistline measurement with scissors.
-
5
Take one piece of cut tulle and form a "U" shape by bringing one end of the tulle parallel to the other end of the tulle. Place the "U" shape tulle on a flat surface.
-
6
Place the cut 2-inch elastic on top of the "U" shaped tulle piece
-
7
Bring the two top parts of the "U" of the tulle piece down and over the elastic. Keep pulling the tulle end pieces until they are under and pulled down the curved part of the U-shape, making sure the tulle piece stays knotted to the elastic.
-
8
Repeat steps 5 to 7 for the remaining tulle strips until there are no tulle strips left.
-
9
Bring both ends of the elastic together and tie a double knot.
