French Manicure Instructions
According to its founder Jeff Pink, the Orly nail lacquer company created the French manicure in 1975. Those in the entertainment and fashion industry wanted to coordinate the actresses' and models' nail polish to their wardrobes, without having to constantly change the color. The French manicure differs from other techniques in that it combines a pink or beige base color with white tips. Women everywhere have adorned this natural look, which is suitable for casual or special occasions. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Cotton balls
- Nail polish remover
- Nail file
- Orange stick
- Beige or translucent pink nail polish
- Opaque white nail polish
- Clear top coat nail polish

Remove any old nail polish with a cotton ball and nail polish remover. File nails straight across to achieve a squared-tip nail.

Soak nails in warm water to soften the cuticles. Push cuticles back with the orange stick.

Apply one coat of pink or beige nail polish from base to tip. Let nails dry completely.

Paint straight across the tip of each nail with one coat of white polish. Let nails dry completely.

Paint entire nail with clear top coat nail polish. Let nails dry for at least 20 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
Use an orange stick with a piece of cotton on the ends dipped in nail polish remover to clean up any errant polish.
