How to Bake a Cake Using a Stainless Steel Pan
Cake is a delectable treat, but only when cooked properly. Selecting the right cake pan and preparing it for baking ensures that your cake comes out fresh and golden. Stainless steel pans are ideal for baking, because they are inexpensive, last for many years and don't disrupt the flavor of the foods cooking in them. Stainless steel does not distribute heat well on its own though, so it's important to find cake pans that feature copper or aluminum cores to cook foods evenly. Prepare the pan beforehand to prevent burning or sticking when baking a cake. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Prepare the stainless steel pan with non-stick cooking spray, if the recipe calls for it. Use a butter-flavored spray to complement the taste of the cake. Hold the spray approximately 6 inches away from the pan and spray, getting into the corners of the pan. If the recipe calls for butter or shortening to prepare the pan, spread a thin layer inside the pan, taking care to cover all surfaces using a pastry brush or your fingers. Add a light dusting of flour to a buttered pan, if desired, and be sure to coat the entire pan.

2
Pre-heat the oven to the required temperature according to your recipe.

3
Fill a mixing bowl with the cake ingredients and mix thoroughly to combine all of the ingredients into a batter using a large spoon or electric mixer. Pour the batter into the greased steel pan.
-
4
Bake the cake for the directed time on the recipe.
-
5
Test the cake by sticking a toothpick directly into its center. All ovens work differently, so cooking times may vary between recipes. If the toothpick comes out clean, the cake is done. If there's batter on the toothpick, leave the cake in for another five to 10 minutes and re-test it until fully cooked.
-
6
Pull the cake out of the oven, and allow it to cool in the stainless steel pan for 15 minutes.
-
7
Remove the cake from the pan by placing two layers of paper towels over the cooling rack and laying it on top of the steel pan, paper-side down. Invert the pan so the cake is released, and allow it to cool on the rack completely before serving or frosting.

Tips & Warnings
Check the recipe instructions to determine which technique is suggested for preparing the pan. There are usually three possible methods: Using a non-stick spray, greasing only with butter or shortening, and greasing with butter or shortening and dusting with flour.
