People frequently tarnish metal to create a desired look for artistic purposes. Tarnish is a common, naturally occurring chemical reaction. However, you can easily recreate the reaction. Tarnish occurs when silver reacts with sulfur in the air to create silver sulfide. You can create tarnish using a few household items.

  • 1 dozen eggs
  • Pot
  • Plastic wrap

Instructions

    • 1

      Hard boil a dozen large eggs and remove their yolks after you have peeled them.

      Mash the egg yolks and cover the tray with them.

    • 3

      Cover the tray and egg yolks with plastic wrap and let it sit overnight.

    • 4

      Remove the plastic wrap and wash the egg yolks off of the tray with water and dishwashing liquid.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the tray is not tarnished enough after the first night repeat the process with fresh eggs the next night. Repeat the process until the desired effect is reached.
