How to Insert an Image in Acrobat 9

Adobe Acrobat 9, as well as previous versions, does not have built-in functionality for inserting images. It is frequently used to create and send non-editable documents and not for document creation. Therefore, inserting an image into a PDF in Acrobat 9 requires a process beyond simply drag-and-drop or easy insertion. Adobe Acrobat 9 uses the Stamp tool as a way to insert images into PDFs. Creating custom stamps will let you insert any images you want in Acrobat 9.

Instructions

    • 1

Double-click a PDF to open it in Adobe Acrobat 9.

    • 2

Click "Tools" and select "Comment and Markup, Stamps and Create Custom Stamp..."

    • 3

Click "Browse" and select the image you want to insert from your computer files. You can specify file types in the "Files of type" drop-down selection menu. Click "OK" when you see the preview of the image.

    • 4

Select a category to assign the image stamp to and enter a name for it. You can opt to downsample the image to reduce file size if you want. If file size is not an issue, leave this unchecked or remove the check if it is checked. Click "OK" at the bottom.

    • 5

Click "Tools" and select "Comment and Markup, Stamps and the category where you assigned your custom image stamp." Select your image from the list of stamps available in that category.

    • 6

Click in the PDF document where you want to place the image. You will see a translucent copy of your image that moves along with your cursor to help you place it correctly. The image will be placed according to the orientation of the translucent copy.

    • 7

Save your PDF and either continue working on it or close it.
