How Should You Polish Fire Opal?
Fire opals are extremely sensitive to humidity and heat. These gems are made of a porous material that requires gentle and delicate care. Wipe the surface of the fire opal gently with a soft silk cloth. Use circular motions to cover the surface of the gemstone. This step will remove any immediate debris that may have accrued from daily wear.

Create a lukewarm bath using a very small amount of mild detergent. Dip the fire opal gently into the lukewarm bath. Use the corner of a soft cloth to delicately rub off any debris from the surface of the ring.

Dry the fire opal off with gentle, circular motions using a soft, dry and clean cloth. Do not set an opal in a hot place to dry as this can damage the delicate material of which the gemstone is made.

Tips & Warnings
Do not submerge doublet or triplet fire opal settings into water as this can loosen the fastenings.
Never wear opal jewelry while showering and doing dishes as temperature fluctuations can affect the stone.
Never soak an opal in the lukewarm water as opals can absorb moisture very easily.
