How to Find Out If My Computer Has a Dual Processor

The type of processor your computer uses greatly affects what the computer is capable of doing. Many programs can only operate on a computer using a processor of a certain type, such as a dual core processor. To determine whether a certain program will run on your system, you likely need to know exactly what kind of processor you have. Finding this out in Windows is a simple matter of opening the System Information program.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Windows "Start" button at the bottom left side of your screen.

    • 2

Type "System Information" into the search box at the bottom of the menu.

    • 3

Click the "System Information" entry under the Programs group in the results. The System Information window will open.

    • 4

Scroll down the window until you see the entry for Processor in the right window pane. Look for the number of "Logical Processors" listed. If the number is two, then your computer is using a dual processor.
