Storing bread in an air-tight container might help prevent day-old bread from drying out.

Bread might lose some of its softness the day after it is baked. Even though the bread might be a bit hard or stale after it is day-old, it isn't a lost cause. Follow a few simple steps to soften day-old bread. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Dampen a kitchen towel with water, enough to moisten it. Loosely wrap the day-old bread in the towel and place in a microwave-safe dish.

    • 2

Place the dish with the wrapped day-old bread in the microwave. Microwave the bread for 10 seconds on high. Watch the bread carefully to ensure the towel doesn't catch on fire.

    • 3

Stop the microwave and check the bread for softness. Microwave again for a few seconds if needed. Be careful not to overheat the bread or it may become dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't store bread in the refrigerator because it may dry out faster.

  • To prevent bread from drying out, wrap leftover bread tightly in storage wrap and store at room temperature.
