Instructions on Lining a Knitted Jacket

Instructions on Lining a Knitted Jacket thumbnail
Sew a lining to your knitted jacket to add warmth.

Knitted jackets are a great way to stay warm when the weather turns brisk, or the season changes from summer to fall, or from fall to winter. However, sometimes the jacket isn't warm enough, and you need an addition to keep you cozy when out in the wind or snow -- adding a lining should do the trick. Buy your linings at sewing stores, clothing stores or via the Internet, and sew it into your jacket.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the sleeves of the lining through the jacket sleeves to check if it fits; cut it to size with the scissors, if necessary. Use one pin to attach the lining sleeve's seams to the seams of the jacket sleeves, setting each pin three inches below each jacket sleeve.

    • 2

Pin the rest of the lining to the inside of the jacket; the pins hold the lining in place while you perform the sewing necessary to attach it to the jacket. Set the pins three inches apart from each other.

    • 3

Stitch the lining to the jacket with the sewing needles and sewing thread. Run the needle and thread back-and-forth along the edges of the lining to attach it to the jacket, ensuring you do not accidentally knock out or otherwise remove the pins during sewing; the stitches should be 1/4-inch apart from each other.

    • 4

Cut off any excess thread with scissors when you have finished sewing the lining to the jacket. Pull out the pins carefully by hand.

    • 5

Hang up the jacket or put it on to take advantage of the new lining.
