Instructions

    • 1

Browse the website of your cell phone manufacturer and check instructions for blocking texts. Different cells have different methods for this, but you can generally set your preferences to block advertisers. Also look in your user manual, which may have a guide.

    • 2

Contact your cell provider and ask them to block messages from a particular number or ask them to stop all text messages if necessary. This is a drastic step, but it can be done.

    • 3

Click on the "Unsubscribe" section in the text to stop future messages. Take care with this, as it can create a cost. Some of these spam messages do not have a number but do have this option.

    • 4

Go into "Options" in the text-messaging section of your cell and you may find a box to tick to stop texts from advertisers or spammers (see link in Resources for BlackBerry).

    • 5

Buy an application that helps you take control of your text messages (see link in Resources). With this you can easily set the numbers you wish to block.

Tips & Warnings

  • Replying to some of these texts can cost money, so just delete them immediately.

  • Do not give out your cell number unless absolutely necessary on sites you log in to for various reasons on the Internet, as this can generate unwanted text messages. Alternatively, have a spare pay-as-you-go phone to use for this purpose.
