How to Add Koi to a Farm Pond
Koi are a beautiful addition to a farm pond. They are a tough and hardy fish and can add a flash of color to the pond that lasts all year long. Koi will breed in farm ponds, though the young may have a tough time surviving the predation of other pond fish. The key to successfully adding koi to your farm pond is minimizing stress to the fish during transportation, and acclimating them to the water conditions in your pond.
Instructions

1
Transfer the koi to a suitable sized container. A five-gallon bucket will work for smaller koi, while larger koi may need a large garbage can or tote container.
-
2
Cover the container with a lid or with netting to prevent the koi from jumping out.
-
-
3
Dip a small amount of water from the farm pond using a small bucket.
-
4
Add the farm pond water to the container with the koi.
-
5
Wait five minutes, then add more water from the pond. Continue to add water until the volume of water in the koi container has doubled. The process should take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes.
-
6

Tips & Warnings
If you already have game fish such as bass in your pond, you'll want to get larger koi so they don't end up getting eaten.
Don't add the water from the koi container back into the pond. It's full of ammonia and hormones secreted by stressed fish.
