Washington state requires all handguns owners register their weapons. Businesses that sell guns are required to make sure the gun is registered properly to the person who buys it. If an individual sells a gun he will need to make sure the gun is properly transferred into the new owner's name.

      Go online to the Washington State Department of Licensing website and download the private disposition/ transfer form. This is the form you will need to use if you sell, lose or otherwise dispose of a gun that is registered in your name.

      Fill out the private disposition/ transfer form with all necessary required information. This includes information about the buyer, the seller and the gun itself. This will include the gun's serial number, type and identifying characteristics. Signatures of buyer and seller must be original and valid.

      Mail the completed form to the Washington State Department of Licensing at Department of Licensing, Firearms Unit, P.O. Box 9649, Olympia, Washington, 98507-9649. Retain a photocopy of the form for your records.
