How to Find Out What Version of Internet Explorer I Am On
If you know your browser's version, you can take advantage of new features that you may not know exist. For instance, Internet Explorer 8 has helpful developer's toolbar while IE6 does not. Knowing your Internet Explorer version can also help you find relevant information when you visit Microsoft support sites. Internet Explorer has many buttons, controls, menus and toolbars. Finding its version numbers only takes a few seconds once you know where to look.

Locate the Windows Start button located in the bottom left corner of your screen.

Click that button to open the Start menu. The Start menu opens and displays a search box at the bottom of the menu.

Type Internet Explorer in the search box. An icon named "Internet Explorer" appears in the Start Menu.

Click that icon to launch the browser. When it opens, you will see a row of buttons at the top of the browser window.

Click the "Help" button to display a drop-down menu containing options.

Click the option labeled "About Internet Explorer." A pop-up window appears and displays the version number. This window also shows the data that Windows applied the latest update to Internet Explorer.

Click "OK" to close that window.

You can discover the version numbers of many other programs by clicking their "Help" buttons and looking for an option that begins with the word "About."
