Instructions

    • 1

Place a cooled chocolate cake on a serving plate. Slightly lift the edges all around the bottom of the cake and place the 2-inch strips of waxed paper underneath so about 1 1/2-inches of paper is showing from underneath the cake. The waxed paper will protect your serving plate from frosting drips.

    • 2

Put the cake on the serving plate on a Lazy Susan. This will allow for easy decorating of your cake.

    • 3

Scoop 1/3 of the chocolate frosting with a spatula or icing knife and place it on the top of the cake. Smooth the icing all over the top of the cake and be sure to not pick up any crumbs from the cake. Give it an initial smoothing. You may give it a final smoothing after you frost the sides.

    • 4

Scoop about 1/3 of the rest of the frosting with your spatula. While holding the Lazy Susan with one hand and the spatula with frosting in the other, turn the cake while smoothing the frosting on the sides of the cake.

    • 5

Spread the frosting over all the side of the cake while turning the Lazy Susan with the other hand. Give your entire cake a final smoothing with your spatula. Use swirling motions on the top of the cake. Scrape the sides of the cake with your spatula by holding it still while turning the Lazy Susan.
