How to Sync Bookmarks From Safari to Firefox

Apple's Safari comes as the default Internet browser in Mac OS X, but you can still install third-party browsers. Mozilla's Firefox has a reputation for its many add-ons and extensions, which presents a valid argument for using both browsers on your Mac for different purposes. Unfortunately, you cannot synchronize bookmarks to automatically update between Firefox and Safari. You can, however, export and import your bookmarks between the two to access your favorite websites from both browsers.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Safari" icon in your Dock to open Safari. You can also access Safari through your Applications folder.

    • 2

Select "File" from the top menu bar, then select "Export Bookmarks." Select a destination for your bookmarks, such as your desktop, and click the "Save" button.

    • 3

Open Firefox and select "Bookmarks" from the top menu bar. Select "Organize Bookmarks" to view your Bookmarks window.

    • 4

Click the "Import and Backup" tab, then choose "Import HTML" from the drop-down menu. Firefox may give you the option to import your bookmarks directly from Safari. If it does not, select "From an HTML File" and click the "Continue" button.

    • 5

Select your exported Safari bookmarks file and click the "Open" button. Your Safari bookmarks appear in the Imported folder. You can drag and drop your bookmarks to rearrange and organize them the way you want in Firefox. Close the Bookmarks window when you're finished.
