How to Get Lavender Cuttings
One of the simplest ways to propagate your lavender bush is to take a "cutting" from it. This basically entails removing a portion of the plant in order to re-plant it in fertile soil elsewhere. Most commercially sold lavender plants are actually grown straight from cuttings rather than from seeds, partly because of the ease of which cuttings can be taken and maintained and partly to ensure plants grow true to type. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Locate a branch on the lavender plant that is approximately 8 inches long. Make sure the plant itself is healthy and free of disease.
-
2
Grasp the stalk firmly and pull it down and away from the main stalk of the plant until it breaks off. Make sure that some of the old wood near the base of the cutting comes away when you break off it off. This "heel" will form the basis of the new root ball.

3
Moisten a paper towel and wrap your lavender cutting to prevent the stem from drying out.
-
4
Use your pruning shears to remove any flower heads or buds from the cutting. You also want to remove the leaves from the lower half of the cutting.
