How Do You Transfer Music to an iPod Without iTunes?

There are a variety of music management applications that can be used to transfer music, videos and other files between your computer and an iPod without iTunes. As iPod support is built-in to these programs, you can begin syncing your device with your music library almost immediately upon installing the software. Sync functionality in Winamp, Foobar2000 and MediaMonkey operates in a similar fashion to iTunes, and you can use these programs to transfer individual songs to your iPod or to sync entire playlists.

Instructions

Winamp

1. Download and install Winamp.

2. Connect your iPod to the computer with a USB cable.

3. Click "Start," type "Winamp" into the search box located at the bottom of the menu, then press "Enter."

4. Expand the "Portable" menu option in the left-hand sidebar, then select "iPod."

5. Click "Sync" to synchronize individual playlists or your entire Winamp library to the iPod. Transfer individual songs to the iPod by dragging them from your library into the iPod menu option in the sidebar.

6. Eject the iPod when transfer is complete by right-clicking the iPod menu option and selecting "Eject."

Foobar2000

1. Download and install Foobar2000.

2. Download the iPod Manager ZIP file.

3. Install the iPod Manager add-on by unzipping the downloaded DLL file to the following directory:

   C:\Program Files\foobar2k\components

4. Connect your iPod to the computer with a USB cable.

5. Click "Start," type "Foobar" into the search box located at the bottom of the menu, then press "Enter."

6. Transfer music to your iPod by right-clicking the track, album or playlist in the foobar2000 library pane and selecting "Send to iPod." Music sent to the iPod will be automatically synced.

7. Eject your iPod once the transfer is complete by selecting "File," then "iPod," then "Eject."

MediaMonkey

1. Download and install MediaMonkey.

2. Connect your iPod to the computer with a USB cable.

3. Click "Start," type "MediaMonkey" into the search box located at the bottom of the menu, then press "Enter."

4. Transfer music to your iPod by dragging tracks, albums or playlists to the iPod icon located in the left-hand sidebar of MediaMonkey. The program will automatically sync all files you drag and drop into the iPod window.

5. Eject the iPod once the transfer is complete by right-clicking the iPod icon and selecting "Eject."
