How to Transfer Data From a 20GB HDD to a 60GB HDD

Having multiple hard drives is an easy way to back up your data, keeping it safe. If you are starting to run out of room on your 20 GB drive and have purchased a larger capacity drive, you can easily copy the data to the new drive. The process is just a matter of dragging the contents to the new drive, Windows will create an exact copy of the data on the 60 GB drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect both drives to the computer if they are not already. If the drive connects via USB, plug the USB cable into open USB ports on the computer.

    • 2

Open the Start menu, select "Computer." Both drives are listed within "Computer".

    • 3

Double-click each drive to open the folder containing the data on the drive.

    • 4

Select "Edit," then "Select All..." on the 20 GB hard drive. This will select the entire contents of the drive. Drag the selected files into the 60 GB drive folder. Windows will begin copying the data to the larger drive. Depending on the amount of data your are copying to the drive, it may take a while to complete.
