1
Choose the path that you would like your steps to follow. Use the steps to make a pathway around flowerbeds or from your back porch to an outdoor seating area.
-
2
Lay the steps down temporarily to visualize the different options the layout of your yard offers. You can experiment by moving stones around to perfect the walkway before they are permanently installed. Once you have decided where you steps will lay, leave them on the ground for reference while installing.

3
Use a rake to remove any grass or weeds that will prevent the step from laying flat.
-
4
Pick up the first step to clear and level the ground underneath it. Use a shovel to remove any extra soil or dirt that will prevent the step from laying flat. Steps will also settle over time once they have experienced some foot traffic.
-
5
Wet the area where the step will lay with a hose. The step will settle into the ground quicker this way than if it were installed dry.
-
6
Lay the step down on the prepared area. Repeat Steps 3 to 5 for the rest of the stones until you have finished.
