How to Set iTunes to Manual Sync

According to Apple support, by default, iTunes is set to automatically sync content to your iPhone, iPod or iPad whenever you connect the device to your computer. Disable automatic sync and activate the manual management option of your Apple device to control when and what you sync from your iTunes library.

      Open iTunes. Click the "Edit" menu. Select "Preferences." The Preferences window opens.

      Click the "Devices" tab. Check the box next to "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads From Syncing Automatically."

      Click the "OK" button to save the changes. The Preferences window closes.

      Connect your device to the computer with the Apple USB dock cable.

      Select the device from the "Devices" list in the left pane of the iTunes window. The device's Summary page loads.

      Scroll down the Summary page to the "Options" section.

      Check the box next to "Manually Manage Music and Videos," then click the "Apply" button at the bottom of the window.
