How to Recover & Restore a System

Microsoft Windows operating systems include a System Restore program within its System Recovery tools that allows you to turn back the clock on your computer to recover files and restore the computer to the state it previously was in. There is no work that you need to do to prepare your computer to run System Restore. Your computer automatically sets restore points. When you need to restore your system, you can set it back to one of these points.

      Remove all floppy disks, DVDs and CDs from your computer.

      Press and hold the "Power" button to turn the computer off. Press the "Power" button again to turn it back on.

      Press and hold the "F8" key as your computer restarts. Press the button before the Windows logo appears. The Advanced Boot Options screen will appear.

      Press the arrow keys to highlight "Repair Your Computer."

      Press "Enter."

      Select your keyboard layout and click "Next."

      Click "System Restore."

    • 8

      Click the restore point listed to which you want to revert your computer's operating system. Click "Next."

      Wait as your computer restores itself to the selected point. The computer will restart. After it restarts, the system recovery process is complete.
