How to Search Firefox History

Firefox saves a history of the websites you've visited and the different files you've saved by default. While the browser uses this information to populate the drop-down menu and autocomplete functions when you type text into the address bar, you can also pore through the information yourself. Digging through your saved history might help you remember which websites you visited on a particular day, or search for specific records to delete if you don't want others to know the details of your Internet use. Firefox offers a text-based search function to help you find files without slogging through lists.

Instructions

    • 1

Push the orange button labeled "Firefox" in the top-left of the browser window. Choose "Show All History" from the list of options in the drop-down menu.

    • 2

Click in the "Search History" field in the upper-right hand corner of the "Library" window that appears. Type in the name of the website you're looking for. The pane below will populate with results as you type.

    • 3

Browse through the list until you find the result you're searching for.

    • 4

Right-click on the history result to see a list of available options, including deleting the record or opening the website in a new tab or window.

    • 5

Browse your history by date if a manual search doesn't give you the results you need. Look for the "Day" options under "History" in the window's left pane. Read through the lists until you find the desired record.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can access the "Show All History" option in older versions of Firefox by looking under the "History" listing in the menu bar.
