How to Dispute Billing Charges
It has happened to almost everyone: You receive your credit card statement in the mail, open it up, and there is a charge you do not recognize on the bill. Sometimes it is a small charge; other times it is a major charge for airfare or expensive electronics. Either way, you can dispute billing charges for items that you did not purchase.
Instructions

1
Contact the company that issued the charge. You should be able to see the name of the company on your bill. If not, your credit card issuer can provide further information.
-
2
Speak to a customer service representative and ask to have the charge removed. Explain that you did not purchase the item in question. In many cases, merchants will remove the charge without much further hassle.
-
-
3
Contact your credit card company if the merchant refuses to reverse the charge. You can find the customer service line for your card company on the back of your card.
-
4
Explain the situation to the card company representative and let him know you have already attempted to resolve the issue with the merchant. The credit card employee should be able to issue a charge-back to fix the bill.
-
5
Speak with the representative about cancelling your card and getting a new one, as unauthorized purchases are a sign that your card information has been compromised.

Tips & Warnings
Talk to your family members before initiating this process to make sure no one made purchases of which you were unaware.
If you purchased an item but were unhappy with it, try to resolve the situation by returning it to the store before moving on to billing disputes.
